Refraining Order
What is a Refraining Order?
This article is a brief and general overview about Refraining Orders. A refraining order is a temporary court order that tells the Family Responsibility Office (FRO) to delay a specific enforcement measure while you try to pay owed child support or owed spousal support. The order does not wipe off any debt or stop interest from accumulating, but the order simply 'buys time' for you to begin a credible repayment plan.

Who is eligible for get a Refraining Order?
When a person falls behind on their Child or Spousal Support, and is late in paying either child or spousal support, they can apply for a Refraining Order to temporarily prevent the FRO from suspending your driver's license, or any other enforcement measures the FRO has set forth against you. This simply allows you to 'buy time' and catch up on your child or spousal support payments.
